On Trusting Macintosh Hardware

I just visited the Lesser Antilles for the first time, specifically the island of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, during the first week of December 2024.

As a certified Hacker News addict (like Slashdot before it), I see a lot of open source projects get publicly announced.

Preface: I don’t use iCloud. I don’t use an Apple ID. I don’t use the Mac App Store. I don’t store photos in the macOS “Photos” application, even locally. I never opted in to Apple network services of any kind - I use macOS software on Apple hardware.
